Donald G. Maize ’42

Donald G. Maize ’42 is remembered by those who knew him as a sailor who loved the sea. His life’s travels saw him dock in many ports that he called home, including Bequia in the West Indies and several areas along the coast of sunny Florida. No matter where Don’s many adventures led him next, he remembered Germantown Academy was home once too. Serving as a significant and formative base in his early life in Philadelphia, Mr. Maize made sure to account for his fond experiences by creating a charitable remainder unitrust to benefit the school. Upon his passing in January 2006, GA received a very generous contribution from the trust to continue the school’s mission.

“Dad thought very highly of his time at Germantown Academy. His GA diploma was the only one that hung on his office wall. I think he was proud of his experience there and wanted to make sure to give back in support of his education.” —Bill Maize, son
