Frederick (Fred) Stuart, Jr. ’61 started at Germantown Academy in pre-kindergarten. His father, Frederick Stuart, Sr. ’26, also attended GA as did his cousin Bill Widmer ’57. Fred was a very involved student, participating in the glee club, student government, and debate while also playing on the football, baseball, and hockey teams.

Fred has been contributing to the annual fund since the 1980s and has been a member of the Samuel E. Osbourn Society since 2011. While reviewing his estate plan, he decided that he wanted to remember GA in a special way. He has made a bequest in his will to provide financial aid with preference to a student from the Germantown area of Philadelphia, where he grew up.

As an alumnus, Fred remains involved and participated in his 50th Reunion planning. He was instrumental in promoting attendance at the Reunion events and led the class fundraising effort to name the Assistant Librarian Office during the Building on Tradition campaign. In addition, the committee funded the donation of their Class Stone that year. Through this activity he was invited to join the Alumni Society Board and was a respected addition to this group.

After GA, Fred went on to Princeton University and enjoyed a 30-year career in executive recruiting. “Without the education we received at GA, many of us would not be as successful as we have been,” Fred says. “This gift is a good way to recognize that. I hope that the recipients will be able to gain impactful experiences similar to ours.”
